The Ross Art Chandelier
Linda Ross founded RAS in Boston in 1999. Within a few years, the studio had become a leading destination for artists working in kiln-cast sculptural glass. Early clients included Kiki Smith, Robert Gober, Eric Fischl, Maya Lin, Arlene Shechet, Janet Echelman, and Yoko Ono.
As the company developed, Linda continued to teach and lecture—at MassArt, RISD, Pilchuck, MIT, and UMass—and traveled often for projects—to Venice, Prague, Turkey, Mexico, and all over the US. The studio's roster expanded to include artists from around the world, among them Marguerite Humeau, Manolo Valdés, Magda Campos-Pons, Monira Al Qadiri, and Felipe Baeza. You can view a selection of work made for our artist clients here.
Ross Art Studio also took on major public commissions, fabricating glass for installations, including the Boston Marathon Bombing Memorial on Boylston Street and the LGBTQ Memorial in Hudson River Park, in the West Village.
The studio's reputation grew, and architects and designers began calling Linda for collaboration on the design, fabrication, and installation of highly individual architectural features for some of the country's most exceptional private residences—objects that are as much works of art as they are functional elements of an interior.
The Ross Art Chandelier was inspired by some of the relationships formed on these architectural projects with metalworkers and lighting specialists. Each of the fixture's three basic components—steel or bronze teardrop cradles, pulled glass cane, and an LED system—is hand-made and customizable: Dimensions, metal types and patinas, glass colors and transparency, and programmable lighting schemes, may be chosen by the client to create a literally one-of-a-kind lighting fixture.
The cane is mixed in the studio to match any color—transparent or translucent—across the spectrum.
Customizable lighting options for the Ross Art Chandelier range from refined, high-CRI warm/neutral/cool white illumination with seamless tunable daylight transitions, to vibrant RGBW color palettes—allowing the piece to transform from subtle architectural warmth to dramatic, saturated statements. Any available LED technology—like dynamic light engines with advanced control protocols and intuitive wireless programmability—can be incorporated in the chandelier.
